Is an ALGORDANZA memorial diamond a genuine diamond?
Yes - the ALGORDANZA memorial diamond shows the same physical, chemical and optical properties as a natural diamond. In our production site in Switzerland we recreate the natural formation conditions. Thus, your individual ALGORDANZA Memorial Diamond can grow.
How much does this unique form of remembrance cost?
Our service starts at € 4'000.- for a 0,4 ct rough diamond in Germany and Austria made from hair. The price is determined by the carbon source, selected size and cut of your chosen memorial diamond.
Does the size (weight) of the diamond depend on the amount of used Carbon source?
No - the size of the diamond depends on the duration of the process. The longer the remembrance diamond lasts in the growing phase, the bigger it becomes.
How many cremation ashes are required to create an ALGORDNZA Pure memorial diamond?
The cremation of an adult can produce up to 4 kg of ash. It is not the volume of ash that is decisive for the diamond burial, but its carbon content. As a rule, 500 grams of ash are enough for the secure production of a memorial diamond.
What happens to the rest of the remains, if I choose an ALGORDANZA Pure Memorial Diamond?
If you do not desire an inhumation the entire ash volume would be leaved in the production process until the entire cremation ash is completely transformed. Otherwise, we send back the remaining ashes to the funeral home in order to entomb them at the native place or we scatter the remains in our forest cemetery in Switzerland or picked-up individually in Domat/Ems.
What happens if there is not enough carbon left in the cremation bag for a memorial diamond?
In special situations, such as cremation of small children or cremations with significant excess of oxygen, it can happen that the carbon in the cremation ashes given to us is insufficient to successfully grow one or more memory diamonds. In these cases, after the carbon analysis, we contact the funeral home and/or the bereaved and find a common solution, such as Two Sources / Origin.
Does carbon still exist within cremation ashes?
During the cremation process of the corpse and coffin, the carbon goes through a metamorphosis. E.g. the German law stipulates a minimum temperature of 650 °C in the main combustion chamber in which the coffin is located. In the following downstream chamber, the significantly raised temperature of >850 °C prevents the emission of harmful gaseous emissions. During cremation, a large part of the carbon escapes as gaseous carbon dioxide. The proportion by weight of the carbon remaining in the main combustion chamber is generally between 0.5% and 2.5% of the dry cremation ash. This can be demonstrated technologically by appropriately equipped laboratories. The carbon is isolated from the ash by a wet-chemical process or pyrolysis and serves as the basis for the later diamond synthesis.
What is in an urn after cremation?
Due to technical and legal reasons, a cremation always takes place in a coffin. Therefore, the cremation ashes will contain minor components of the coffin, clothing, as well as potential implants. It is technically impossible to separate and divide this cremation ashes and the carbon also. As a result, the diamond lattice of the memorial diamond can contain some carbon atoms from the coffin or the clothing.
How much hair is needed to create an ALGORDNZA Hair memorial diamond?
Approximately 5g of hair are required to transform one or more memorial diamonds of hair.
What personal items can I use for my ALGORDANZA Origin memorial diamond?
For the additional carbon source of an ALGORDANZA Origin, hair, photos or letters can be used. The personal object must be directly related to the deceased.
What does ALGORDANZA guarantee with the certificate?
With our certificate, we guarantee the authenticity, weight, cut and color of the diamond as well as the origin of the diamond from the Carbon source given to us.
Can I have more than one diamond from the same Carbon source?
Yes, we are able to create more than one diamond from the requested Carbon source. We can specify the number of possible diamonds after detailed analyses of the source in our laboratory.
How long does it take until I can hold my diamond in my hands?
The synthesis takes about 4-8 months beginning from the date of reception of the Carbon source and the receipt of the payment. Nevertheless, the synthesis of a diamond is a highly complex process. In some cases, it can take more time. We assure you that quality and precision are our first priority.
Why do the diamonds have different bluish shades?
The coloration depends on the element boron within the diamond. The more boron is bound to the carbon grid the more intense is blue coloration. We do not affect the coloring of the diamond. The unique blueish coloration emphasizes the uniqueness of your personal Memorial Diamond. In case of low boron density, the diamond will occur in light shade or white. The environment we use for the diamond growth prevents the incorporation of nitrogen atoms of the atmosphere into the diamond crystal lattice, which would result in a yellowish color of the memorial diamond.
Why do Algordanza memorial diamonds have inclusions?
Our top priority is the respectful treatment of the cremated remains in the process of cultivation of the memorial diamond. Obtaining the carbon from the cremated remains is the basis for the growth of the memorial diamond. Many steps of purification and graphitization are done between the ashes and the carbon extracted from it. Sometimes, in addition to the carbon, some very small trace elements of the cremains enter into the crystal lattice and appear in the diamond as inclusions. We regard this as a special proof and feature of the individual origin and the personal character of our unique memorial diamonds and not as a downside. The majority of Algordanza memorial diamonds have a quality level of SI1 or better. But we cannot guarantee a certain quality level due to the special origin of the carbon.
Is it possible to synthesize a diamond even if the person has died and been cremated a while ago?
Yes - the age of the ashes or hair is not relevant for the synthesis.
Does Algordanza produce memorial diamonds out of animal cremains or hair?
No, Algordanza produces memorial diamonds solely out of cremation ashes or hair of deceased humans. If you are interested in memorial diamonds out of animal cremation ashes or hair, kindly contact Semper Fides GmbH in Germany.
What is the ALGORDANZA Pre-Need Warranty?
With the ALGORDANZA Pre-Need Warranty, you are able to arrange your diamond burial wish in your lifetime. You acquire the right for your beneficiaries to receive a memorial diamond from your remains according to your wishes.
I have the right of termination in a Pre-Need contract within four weeks of signing. If I make use of this right, do I have to pay anything?
No. We granted you the termination right within a four-week period and it is therefore unconditional.
What if I wish to terminate my Pre-Need warranty contract upon expiry of the four-week period?
Unilateral termination after four weeks is not possible. You placed an order, which we accepted and therefore we entered into an obligation. In exceptional cases, please contact us and we endeavor to find a solution.
Who gets a copy of the Warranty Certificate? Who informs ALGORDANZA of my passing?
You will receive one copy of the warranty certificate and ALGORDANZA keeps another copy. In addition, we provide the nominated trustee with a copy, which secures your right to full disclosure. It is incumbent upon yourself to instruct the beneficiaries of your warranty and/or your funeral director to inform us of your passing. As a safeguard in this respect, we recommend that you arrange with a funeral director ahead of time so that they are mentioned in the warranty certificate and be provided with a copy for their records.
We also recommend storing declarations of intent and our warranty along with all your other personal documents, which are normally accessed first by those entrusted to make the funeral arrangements. Please be informed that it is general practice to open the will after the funeral and burial - by which time it may be too late to execute the Pre-Need warranty.
What happens if the beneficiary cannot, or will not, transfer the final payment?
As the contract was signed between yourself and ALGORDANZA, we cannot pressure the beneficiary to make the final payment, even if it was your expressed wish. To avoid such situations, we strongly recommend that you opt for the VG 100 contract, whereby you pay all of the costs upfront and the beneficiary can receive the Memorial Diamond without hindrance of any sort.
What happens if the Algordanza company is no longer in existence by the time of my passing?
ALGORDANZA is active in more than 34 countries and has been in existence for more than a decade. Its finances are sound, and an experienced management team leads it. Therefore, there is little chance of the company failing. In the extremely unlikely event that the company does cease to exist due to unforeseen circumstances, your Pre-Need payment is secured because of its deposit in a fiduciary-controlled account and is therefore safe from any third party or special interest claims.
